ENNSTONE JOHNSON ACQUIRES MAY GURNEY SURFACING

November, 06

UK business continues to perform well with prices.

Ennstone PLC announced the acquisition of May Gurney Surfacing for 475,000 stg by its subsidiary Ennstone Johnson, alongside a trading update forecasting a 'challenging' second half as a cooling US housing market pulls housing starts to a six-year low.

'Trading (in the US) is tough and this is likely to continue well into 2007,' the trading update said, '...however, we have a good position in our US regions... and are confident of further successes in the medium term.'

The aggregate and building products firm said its UK businesses continue to perform well with prices remaining strong.

The company's previously announced acquisition of a minority holding in Berwyn Granite Quarries, which operates Leaton quarry, along with the May Gurney buy will allow the continued integration of aggregates into downstream products.
