MOHAWK INDUSTRIES OPENS NEW PLANT IN SOUTH CAROLINA

April, 06

Mohawk Industries, a Georgia-based rug and carpet manufacturer, recently opened its new state-of-the-art extrusion and yarn mills in Marlboro, S.C..

The $70 million expansion brings the company’s total work force to 1,000 at the plant.

The significant expansion, which began in 2004, represented a $70 million investment in Bennettsville. Originally beginning its South Carolina operations in 1957, Mohawk already employed 650 people at its original mill, known as the Oak River Site.

The company indicated completion of the Oak River North Site was the first phase of a potential expansion that could eventually accommodate another 300 workers. Today’s grand opening brings Mohawk’s total employment in Marlboro County to almost 1,000.
